Challenge

Before the implementation of the eiAcademy with Enovation, learning and development at Enterprise Ireland faced several key challenges. Learning was largely transactional and manual, with no central system to support or prioritise organisational learning. There was no single place to host courses or capture learning activity, and Enterprise Ireland was not creating its own internal content or structured training programmes. As a result, learning was fragmented, difficult to access, and not consistently aligned with organisational or strategic priorities.

In addition, the absence of an LMS meant there was no scalable way to manage, track, or report on learning activity across a geographically dispersed workforce. Courses, learning records, and materials were spread across multiple platforms or managed offline, limiting visibility, consistency, and engagement. Enovation helped overcome these challenges by implementing the LMS that provided a centralised “Academy”, now serving as the single source of truth for all internal learning.

The Academy also helped Enterprise Ireland to start creating its own bespoke training programmes while also integrating an external eLearning library to support a broader and more flexible learning strategy.

Problems

  • No Central Learning Platform

There was no single, centralised location for courses or learning materials. Training content was scattered and largely managed through manual processes, making it difficult for employees to find, access, or engage with learning opportunities.
  • Limited Focus on Learning and Development

Learning was not prioritised at an organisational level. Without a structured system or clear learning pathways, development activity was inconsistent and not closely aligned to business or capability needs.
  • Absence of Knowledge Management

There was no effective mechanism to capture, store, or share organisational knowledge. Valuable expertise, best practices, and lessons learned remained siloed within teams or individuals and were at risk of being lost.
  • Low Employee Engagement with Learning

Without an accessible, user‑friendly learning environment, employee engagement with learning was limited. There were few opportunities for self‑directed, social, or collaborative learning, reducing motivation and participation.

Solutions

  • One-stop shop The implementation of the LMS with Enovation provided Enterprise Ireland with a single, centralised learning platform — the Academy — acting as the one‑stop shop for all internal learning and development activity. All courses, learning materials, and resources are now housed in one accessible location, significantly improving visibility, consistency, and ease of access for employees.
  • Learning as an organisational priority Through structured learning pathways, scheduled programmes, and clear visibility of available training, learning activity became more strategic and aligned to business and capability needs. The platform supports both mandatory and role‑specific learning, ensuring a consistent and scalable approach to workforce development across the organisation.
  • Collaboration platform With the introduction of Totara Engage, the LMS evolved into a knowledge‑sharing and collaboration platform. Employees are now empowered to create, share, curate, and discover knowledge within their teams and across departments. This has enabled Enterprise Ireland to capture valuable organisational knowledge, reduce silos, and ensure that expertise, best practices, and insights are retained and shared rather than lost.
  • User-friendly design The user‑friendly design of the LMS significantly improved employee engagement with learning. The platform supports self‑directed learning, social and collaborative learning activities, and access to both internally created content and an external eLearning library. Also, the Academy is now integrated with MS Teams, increasing the opportunities to access learning.

Results

Evidence of impact includes:

  • Increased Internal Training Delivery and Capability Building - The LMS has enabled Enterprise Ireland to design, create, and deliver its own training at scale—an ability that did not exist prior to implementation. From 1 January 2026 to 23 April 2026, Enterprise Ireland delivered over 30 internally created training sessions, representing 31% of all training sessions delivered during this period (30 of 94 total sessions).

Evidence of impact includes:

  • Enhanced Knowledge Management Through Totara Engage - With the introduction of Totara Engage, the platform evolved beyond traditional learning management to actively support knowledge sharing and collaboration. Employees are now empowered to create and share knowledge within and across teams and departments.

Conclusion

Since the implementation of the LMS with Enovation, including Totara Engage, Enterprise Ireland has seen clear, measurable improvements in learning delivery, knowledge management, and employee engagement.

Employees are now empowered to create and share knowledge within and across teams and departments. Evidence of impact includes:

  • 26 new workspaces created to support focused collaboration and knowledge sharing
  • 230 new knowledge resources created since implementation
  • 7 employees have been trained to design and create their own e-learning courses.
  • 4 new courses are currently in development, further expanding its learning offer
  • Dedicated Creation Room that employees can use to produce high-quality videos and podcasts – already been used to record over 10 videos and one company-wide podcast, demonstrating early adoption

These metrics reflect a strong adoption of knowledge management practices, improved visibility of organisational expertise, and reduced information silos.
