The Dublin Dental School and Hospital, part of Trinity College Dublin, worked with Enovation Solutions to adopt an innovative Pocket PC-based tracking solution called the Electronic Labs Tracker (ELT).
Each year, hundreds of pieces of work pass through the Hospital's laboratory as everything from crowns to dentures are manufactured and managed. Tracking these items used to be a cumbersome process involving numerous trips to a PC away from the actual items.
The ETL system allows Laboratory Managers to track work items without having to return to a PC. The handheld devices are linked wirelessly to the Hospital's central Patient Information System so that details can be instantly displayed on the Pocket PC and the job details updated.
Commenting on the solution, Dublin Dental School and Hospital IS Manager Luke Feeney remarked that having the data available immediately made it much easier to organise each job; "We can track each item immediately in the lab away from a desk. We can see who the patient is, what the job is, its status and the responsible dentist - all this makes us much more efficient".
