The Institute of Technology Tallaght runs a number of joint programmes with Nanjing University of Technology (NJUT) in China. Next August, circa 50-70 students will complete their final year programmes (in Pharmaceutical Science & Engineering) in the Institute of Technology Tallaght. The Institute has had a number of its lecturers based in China for periods of up to 6 months delivering modules on accredited programmes in conjunction with the Nanjing lecturers. This joint delivery of programmes provides students with the opportunity to enhance their language skills and prepare for study in Ireland.
Currently, NJUT does not utilise an LMS for its students. As Moodle is widely used in Tallaght and the lecturers will require the students to submit assignments and complete quizzes online as part of their studies NJUT installed a Moodle instance locally where lecturers from Tallaght could upload/restore facets of their Dublin courses to the local Nanjing Instance.
In order to introduce these joint programme students to Moodle, the Institute of Technology Tallaght engaged Enovation to provide training (over the period of a week) to the IT Manager on the administration of the Moodle Instance, the lecturers and Heads of Departments on the features of Moodle and finally to the students of the Joint Programme on how to use Moodle and what would be expected of them when they arrive in Dublin in August, 2011.
Liam Ryan of Enovation Solutions travelled to China with Rosemary Cooper of the Institute of Technology Tallaght.
"It was a fantastic experience and I am very grateful to both Enovation and the Institute of Technology Tallaght to allow me the opportunity to travel to China. The training was extreme fun (via translator and a translated Moodle interface) and I also learnt along the way. We were afforded an exceptional welcome and naturally the dining was an experience to behold. I have always wanted to visit and experience this culture. We also got an excellent insight into education in China."
“I am still in contact with one or two of the students as they mail about the weather in Dublin and football scores in the premiership!”
“My only fear is some Chinese students with Cork accents appearing at the steps of the Institute of Technology Tallaght next August asking about "Moodle-Boy".
