Terminal 2 is ready for the final advanced Operational Trial on Saturday the 09th of October 2010 in advance of the November opening. The structure, served by its own dedicated arrivals and departures roads, comprises a check-in hall and a departures hall connected by a bridge that forms the central spine of the building. It has 58 check-in desks, a provision for self-service and online check-in and 9,000 sq meters of retail and catering outlets. The project presents major challenges in terms of systems integration, contractor management, stakeholder involvement, concurrency and delivery.
The IT element of the project alone is divided into 14 specialist systems that include wireless LAN setup, access control and an innovative immigration clearance system - one of only two in Europe - that allows passengers to clear US customs and immigration before departure. It is the responsibility of the IT services team to ensure that everything is working properly and to support the systems going forward. Following a successful tender process in early 2009, DAA brought in specialist project managers from Enovation Solutions to manage delivery, training and user acceptance testing for a number of the work steams.
In advance of the launch on Saturday, Mike Fenton, IT programme manager for Terminal 2 spoke about Enovation’s involvement in the project: “We are delighted with the work of Enovation Solution’s project managers. Their flexibility, strong communications skills and ability to work outside normal parameters have gone a long way towards helping us deliver on the IT programmes for the terminal.”
