March '09 - Enovation Solutions was selected by the Glucksman Library, University of Limerick (UL) to implement an institutional repository to capture, store and display digital output.
Based on its successful implementation with a large number of Universities in Ireland and abroad, UL chose the open source repository solution, DSpace, for the project. Enovation’s solutions team then customised the look and feel of DSpace and developed an importer to allow the University to upload specific metadata. Enovation also provided training, support and an additional interface for UL’s affiliate Mary Immaculate College.
“Enovation Solutions came highly recommended,” said Sinead Keogh, Digital Initiatives Librarian at UL. “They have a great reputation in the education sector and we weren’t disappointed. Their project management and technical support skills helped us successfully deliver this project.” Sinead added: “The repository meets the University’s and Library’s objectives of connecting people to information, enhanced library environments and digital innovation.”
In use since November 2008, the repository was designed to host both research publications and archive material. One of the first projects will involve digitising material from the University’s special collection, making available the first issue of The Limerick Chronicle from 1768.
Commenting on the project, Gavin Henrick, solutions consultant with Enovation Solutions said: “Open Access is a key driver for repository projects. All our University clients want the benefits of storing and preserving digital materials but see greater visibility and the ability to showcase research materials as additional long term goals.”
