Enovation Solutions wins Moodle Support Contract

October 09-Enovation Solutions, the Irish business and information technology company, has won an open tender competition to provide ongoing support and maintenance for the e-Learning environment within ITT Dublin.

In 2008, a review of learning technology in ITT Dublin found a huge level of interest in Moodle, a virtual learning environment (VLE) which is designed to help educators create online courses with opportunities for rich interaction with their students. Students and teachers wanted to exploit the system, which had become an integral part of their teaching and learning processes. As a result, the Institute applied for funding to set up a Centre for Learning and Teaching which has centralised academic staff development, student support, and learning technology training and support, including the management and development of Moodle. A Learning Technologist was employed to coordinate Moodle training and end-user support. Following the success of the initial implementation, the functional, technical support and maintenance element was put out to tender in July 2009.

“We have a diverse student community, with flexible learning and study requirements on our various full time, part time, and flexible programmes, said Rosemary Cooper, Head of Teaching and Learning Innovation, ITT Dublin. “It is important we continue to offer these students the flexibility, resources and structures that a sustainable VLE solution provides.”

Enovation Solutions was awarded the contract based on their extensive experience providing education and research solutions to the education sector, in particular their experience with the Moodle VLE. The contract with ITT Dublin covers ongoing support of the Moodle infrastructure, monitoring for security updates, managing upgrades, application maintenance, new modules and plug-ins and the implementation of back-ups. Enovation with also liaise with the Centre for Learning and Teaching and the Institute’s in-house IT Department to continually develop and enhance the Moodle offering. The new arrangements will come into force on October 15th and will be reviewed on an annual basis.

“Our support will ensure the continued success and high availability of ITT Dublin’s e-Learning environment” said Liam Ryan, Solutions Consultant with Enovation Solutions. “A secure, reliable environment will give them the confidence to expand their e-Learning platform to include other pedagogical solutions for the benefit of their students.”
