Blackboard to Moodle migration

mwell logo

January 2012 - Motherwell College, based in Lanarkshire Scotland, is a further and higher education College with more than 500 staff supporting some 20,000 students.

In late 2010 as part of the e-learning strategic review, the College evaluated the impact of e-learning across the curriculum.  As part of that review the College decided to explore alternatives to the existing Blackboard which had been the VLE for a number of years.  This resulted in the College opting for a move to the open source alternative – Moodle.

Following a competitive tender process, Motherwell chose Enovation Solutions based on:

  •  An established track record in successfully providing a range of similar services
  •  Experience working with Colleges and Universities as well as reputable corporate clients
  •  A clear and pragmatic migration process
  •  The ability to work to the College's timescales
The project was completed successfully allowing the College to go live with Moodle in the Autumn of 2011.

"Cromwell's Letters" Collaboration Portal

Alfresco

December 2011 - In common with many Universities, academics in Trinity College Dublin collaborate with their peers across the world on various projects.  In the case of the Department of History, it is a research project in collaboration with Universities in the UK and US relating to the letters and papers of Oliver Cromwell.  The project needed a space to share resources online in a controlled and secure manner.  They looked for an external partner that could put an appropriate managed solution in place, quickly.

Enovation have considerable experience implementing online collaboration solutions utilising the Alfresco document management system.  Other customers in Ireland include Local Authorities and Three Ireland.

Some of the specific requirements for this project include:

  •  Need to share version controlled documents
  •  Comprehensive search and retrieval capability
  •  Use of forums, document annotation and wikis to enhance online communication
  •  Document workflow for review and publication

We were delighted to be able to help the team by providing a secure, managed environment which had the all functionality they required.

We look forward to supporting them on this project.

Ireland's National Portal for Open Access Research - Update

The RIAN (http://www.rian.ie) Open Access portal was developed by Enovation solutions on behalf of the Irish Universities Association.  The premise behind the portal is to showcase Irish research in one central location that is easy to use.

In these challenging economic times it is imperative that Ireland continues to demonstrate its commitment to innovation and research.  In this context, the fact that RIAN  can now be searched on the EU portal http://www.dart-europe.eu is great news indeed.

Currently RIAN will allow you access research papers and resources from the 7 Universities in Ireland as well as the Dublin Institute of Technology.  It is hoped to add more institutions to this roll-call in the coming months.

Some of the features of RIAN include:

  •  Comprehensive search functionality (by Institution, Item type, Funder, Peer review status, Language)
  •  Portal level Statistics
  •  Reporting – exceptions, new items etc
  •  Per item Statistics – geographic, also viewed, rating etc.
Enovation is proud to support and maintain this important national portal.
